Nancy Glover :: Botanical Illustrations

I am a landscape painter who also enjoys painting botanicals. My botanicals are drawn and painted from direct observation. Plants are impossible to reconstruct from memory or a photograph because they are never quite how they seem on closer examination. The discipline and concentration of rendering an accurate drawing later free me to paint the sensuous qualities that attracted me to the subject in the first place.

My interest in painting plant material began in 1999 when a downstairs neighbor asked me to paint his orchid collection. Afterward, I was inspired to improve and went on to complete a certificate in botanical illustration at the NewYork Botanical Garden in 2001.
